In Russia microfinance continues to prove an effective means of providing
working capital to small businesses, especially those encountering difficulty
accessing credit through the formal sector. As microfinance practitioners,
cooperatives, non-commercial organizations, banks and others demonstrate the
value and effectiveness of small loans, the challenges of increasing the
outreach, sustainability, and efficiency of microfinance become more
relevant. This conference was dedicated to examining these challenges
through an exchange of information and opinion on the current state of the
microfinance industry in Russia and a review of issues affecting its
development.
